So now, instead of having one physical hard drive with 100 GB of space, you now have one physical hard drive with two logical drives, one with 75 GB and the other with 25 GB of space. For example, you may have one 100 GB hard drive that you want to partition into two logical drives, one being C: that has 75 GB of space and the other being D: that has 25 GB of space. If you partition a drive, it means that you split one physical drive into separate logical drives. While in the MMC Disk Management snap-in, you can make any number of changes to your drives such as converting your basic disks to dynamic, formatting your volumes, changing a page file, changing a drive letter and path, etc.Īs an example of how this service works, let's say that you decide to partition an existing drive that you have in your computer. If you wish to configure an existing drive, this service is activated once you have made disk configuration changes in the MMC Disk Management snap-in located in the Administrative Tools folder inside the Control Panel.
